Alex Farese

Alex had just finished running a 400 meter race when he collapsed. He gasped, gestured to a friend and fell backwards. A parent, who was also a nurse, administered CPR, while a trainer retrieved the AED. The AED delivered one shock, but then Alex’s heart stopped, which would not allow a second shock to be delivered.

An ambulance arrived in 11 minutes and the EMTs continued CPR and transported Alex to the hospital. He died after four days on life support, never regaining consciousness.
