House Bill 1031 Signed by Governor--Georgia |
On Wednesday, May 14, 2008 Governor Sonny Perdue of GA signed HB 1031 mandating that all GA public high schools with an interscholastic program have an AED on site with proper CPR/AED training!) Alison Ellison (just to the right of Governor Perdue) and Sherri Parman (red jacket) were there for the signing. Dr. Sam Schatten and his wife, Janet, are also pictured. Dr Schatten is a survivor of Cardiac Arrest and has founded CLEAR Coalition, focusing on AED's and CPR training in public places. The governor also had the opportunity to hear Sherri’s story.
Representative Bill Hembree authored this bill aftering hearing the Matt Nader story (Texas) while watching college sports on TV one week-end several months ago. He enjoys telling the story of how quickly this bill passed, and how instrumental the support of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, the American Heart Association and the American Hospital Association was. |
