Name: Sara Krauss
Date of Occurrence: 2004-09
Cause/Defect: HCM
Sara collapsed from undiagnosed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at her drill practice at Katy High School in Sept. 2004. She was 16 years old. Sara was Sunshine. Her smile could light up a room. Fortunately, no one else in our family shows signs of HCM.      More

Name: Kayla Burt
My daughter, Kayla Burt, was a basketball player at the University of Washington, when at 20, she suffered a cardiac arrest. It was 12/31/2002, and some of her teammates gave her CPR until paramedics arrived and defibrillated her. The cause has not fully been determined, but she has gone on to be a very active young woman. Kayla is currently an Assistant Coach at a college in Portland and loves life. She is learning to play the piano, runs daily, and speaks on occasion about living with a heart condition.        More
